A national bird was brutally killed in Pangra shivar on Thursday around 7 pm near the Chitegaon–Bokad Jalgaon road in Paithan tehsil.

According to officials, two minors aged 13 and 6, along with their 35-year-old maternal uncle, allegedly reached the spot on a motorcycle for hunting. The accused reportedly caught the peacock and struck it on the head with a stick, killing it on the spot. Local farmers witnessed the incident and raised an alarm. The uncle fled, leaving behind the motorcycle (MH 20 HK 0711), while both minors were caught by villagers. A sharp weapon was also recovered from them. Forest officials Alka Rathod, Bharat Pawar and Sagar Kute rushed to the spot and took custody of the dead peacock and the detained minors. The accused vehicle has been seized, and further action is underway.
