Permission to sell green firecrackers

Aurangabad, Nov 11:

The uncertainty over sale of firecrackers in Aurangabad city and district was averted in a meeting chaired by district collector Sunil Chavan on Wednesday. In the meeting, it was decided to allow green fire crackers on Diwali. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) was handed over the responsibility to classify the firecrackers.

The state has imposed a ban on the sale of firecrackers as per the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). A meeting was held regarding the implementation of the ban in the district. All aspects have been taken into consideration while banning firecrackers in Aurangabad district. The collector stated that the NGT has approved green firecrackers. The MPBC will classify the green firecrackers. The sale of firecrackers that pollute the air will be banned. The collector also appealed to the citizens to limit the use of firecrackers to avoid pollution and to avoid creating a conducive environment for coronavirus. Municipal commissioner Astik Kumar Pandey and police commissioner Nikhil Gupta were present for the meeting.

Pandey also appealed for the sale of eco-friendly firecrackers.
