Aurangabad, Feb 11:

City Chowk police arrested an accused in a cheating case in 1980. However, after gaining bail, no one inquired about him. He used to go to the court during the hearing but when the case was closed he started living in the city openly. The police after 41 years realized that he was included in the list of the fugitives. Recently, police searched him and produced him before the court. The accused has been identified as Mehmood Khan Hasan Khan (Jadavwadi).

The court initially issues three summonses for the persons not attending the court proceedings. If the person does not respond, a warrant is issued against him. The police then search such persons and produce before the court. Such persons change their address and live in disguise at some other places. Hence, the police could not trace them. When the police inform the court that the person is not traceable, the court keeps the case pending and declares the person fugitive. His name is included in the list of the wanted persons. Recently, DCP Nikesh Khatmode established a cell to trace the fugitive accused. Through this cell, Crime Branch PI, Avinash Aghav, PSI Amol Deshmukh, searched this person after almost 41 years. Mehmood said, he had gone to the City Chowk police station and the court on several occasions but he was told that the case has been closed.

Mehmood was presented before the court and was remanded in police custody. He has been taken to the Harsul Jail now.

Another accused, Shankar Bansi Sakhle, was at large in the case of house burglary of Mahendra Deelipchand Khothari at N-3 Cidco area. A case was registered at Mukundwadi Police Station, 27 years back. Crime Branch PSI, Yogesh Dhonde, searched him and arrested him near Khavdya mountains at Teesgaon after 27 years. There were three more accomplices with him in this case.
