After the May 7 arrest of Nida Khan in connection with the alleged Nashik religious conversion and sexual exploitation case, Shinde Sena and Uddhav Sena have sought a detailed investigation into those who allegedly sheltered her in the city.
A Shinde Sena delegation led by district chief and deputy mayor Rajendra Janjal met police commissioner Pravin Pawar on Saturday and submitted a memorandum. It stated that Khan, who was absconding in the Nashik case, was arrested from Naregaon two days earlier. The memorandum alleged that she had been hiding with the help of corporator Matin Patel, who has been named as an accused for providing shelter and is currently absconding. It further alleged that leaders of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen had openly supported Khan and claimed the party had a role in her disappearance. The Sena demanded a comprehensive probe. Corporators Kishor Nagare, Rishikesh Jaiswal, Shubham Kale, Yashoda Shelke, Pratibha Jagtap, Deepak Pawar, Laxmi Mhaske, Tejaswini Kendre, Vaibhav Bhagat, Rameshwar Mankape and Shekhar Jadhav were present. In a separate memorandum, Uddhav Sena’s Yuva Sena met DCP Pankaj Atulkar, urging a thorough, impartial and transparent inquiry. Citing concerns over women’s safety, social harmony and law and order, it sought strict action against those found guilty. Divisional secretary Dharmaraj Danve and several corporators and office-bearers were present.
