Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The Department of Railways (DoR) officials on Saturday inspected the ongoing works at the Shivajinagar underpass to ensure that water does not accumulate there during this year’s monsoon, as had happened last year. Officials from the DoR arrived from Nanded to examine the level of the underground drainage pipeline meant for water discharge.

During a coordination meeting held at the municipal corporation office on April 28, departments concerned had been instructed to complete the remaining work in the subway within fifteen days. However, several works are still incomplete.

Deputy chief engineer Nooruddin Abid, along with officials Praveen Kumar and Brijesh Kumar and other railway personnel, were present during the inspection on Saturday. For nearly half an hour, officials measured whether the level of the underground pipeline laid beneath the passage was uniform throughout.

Work to remove silt from the underground chamber began on Friday, and once the desilting process is completed, a mud pump will be installed at the site.

According to PWD officials, “There was complete waterlogging in the Shivajinagar underpass during last year. Hence, the inspection was done to take measures to avoid any untoward incident in the underpass during monsoon. The level of the passage floor of the underpass was checked and new barricades (Shivajinagar side) to prevent vehicles from getting stranded inside during the rainy season had been proposed.”
