Report on QR code scam submitted to district collector

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

A committee constituted in February under the chairmanship of chief engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) Atul Chavan has submitted its inquiry report to guardian minister Sanjay Shirsat and district collector Vinay Gowda G C regarding the alleged QR code scam linked to district planning committee (DPC) works.

The committee had been formed by then district collector Dilip Swami on the instructions of guardian minister after suspicions arose that bogus work orders had been generated in the building and construction section for works approved under the DPC, leading to alleged irregularities worth crores of rupees.

It had come to light that QR codes were issued in one name while work orders were generated in another name. Due to this, several works worth crores of rupees transferred from the DPC to the B&C section during the previous financial year had come under suspicion.

There was also speculation that certain contractors had amassed huge profits through the alleged racket and that an entire chain within the B&C section including tender clerks, divisional accounts officers and executive engineers could be involved in the irregularities. This led to the detailed inquiry.

“Inquiry report has been received”

Sanjay Shirsat said, “Some fraudulent activities involving fake QR codes had come to notice in works approved through the DPC and executed by the B&C section. The inquiry report in this matter has now been received. A decision will be taken after receiving detailed information from the district collector.”

“One work order found suspicious”

The district collector said, “The inquiry report regarding the fake QR code case has been received. Appropriate action will be taken after studying the findings of the report.”
