The increasing crime in the city has now impacted even those who uphold the law. Justice Nitin Suryavanshi of the Nagpur Bench of the High Court became a target when burglars attempted to break into his residence in N-3.
The thieves broke the main door’s lock but failed to steal anything. Pundaliknagar police have registered a case.
Justice Suryavanshi’s house is in the N-3 area. His family member, Tatya Rao Punde, visits the house daily to light lamps in the morning and evening. On February 21, when he arrived as usual, he found the main door’s lock broken. He immediately informed Justice Suryavanshi’s son, Advocate Sanket Suryavanshi, and court assistant manager Prashant Naik. Soon after, High Court security and Pundaliknagar police rushed to the house. The burglars had ransacked the place, but initial investigations suggested that nothing valuable had been stolen.

Burglars enter through the bathroom window
Another burglary occurred at the residence of Usha Jaywal in Balajinagar, Harsul. She had left for Begumpura to attend a relative’s funeral. When she returned home on February 20, she discovered that 5 tolas (approx. 50 grams) of gold jewelry and 4.5 tolas (approx. 45 grams) of silver ornaments were missing. Upon inspection, it was found that the burglars had broken the bathroom window to gain entry.

Tenth day of looting in the city
For the past ten days, criminals have been looting people daily sometimes at knifepoint, sometimes by assaulting them. However, the police seem to be doing little to stop these incidents.
On Saturday at around 2.30 am, Murgesh Chaudhary (42) was walking toward the Cidco Bus Stand to catch a bus to Chandrapur. Two men stopped him, demanded money, and assaulted him. A while later, four more individuals on a moped (MH 20 - HD - 6389) caught up with him and beat him up with kicks and punches. They robbed him of his mobile phone and two silver rings.
Despite having CCTV footage and vehicle numbers in more than five such cases, the police have failed to catch the culprits, raising serious concerns about their efficiency.
