Rs 60L recovered from transporters for evading GST

Aurangabad, Dec 17:

The State Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department has launched a severe drive against the tax evaders. The officers checked around 14,700 goods trucks and seized 60 trucks transporting without e-way bills recovering the fine of Rs 60 lakh from them.

After the implementation of the GST, it was expected that the tax evasion will be restricted. However, it has not been stopped. The state GST department conducts raids to check the tax evasions by the transporters. The department checked the truck on the Jalna – Ambad Road between December 10 and 15. Under the guidance of Joint commissioner (Border Check post) Anil Bhandari, assistant commissioner R S Jagtap, around 80 officers and employees of Aurangabad, Jalna and Beed districts executed the drive. In all, 14700 goods trucks were checked and it was found that 60 have not prepared the e-way bills for transportation. The tax evasion will be averted after the this action, the officers opined.
