RTI activist arrested for demanding ransom from builder

Aurangabad, July 8:

A Right to Information (RTI) activist has been remanded in the judicial custody to the Harsul prison for demanding a ransom of Rs 15 lakh to a builder for withdrawing all the applications submitted against him at the registry office and not to trouble him anymore. The arrested has been identified as Zadi Mir Fakhar Ali (Labour Colony).

Complainant Shaikh Mohammad Sabir Shaikh Mohammad Sharif is a builder and developer. Zadi Mir had submitted application at the registry office demanding that the registration of the plots develop by Shaikh Sabir should not be done. The complainant face several problems in the business due to the application. Zadi Mir met the builder and demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh to withdraw the application and not to trouble him anymore in future. However, Sabir was not willing to give money to him and hence, he lodged a complaint against Zadi Mir at the City Chowk police station. The police laid a trap and arrested Zadi Mir red handed while accepting Rs 15 lakh from the complainant on Wednesday night. Bundles of fake currencies amounting Rs 14 lakh were made while real currency amount Rs 1 lakh were kept in a bag during the police action. He was produced before the court and was remanded in the judicial custody in Harsul prison. API S K Khatane is further investigating the case.
