A speeding car went out of control, rammed into a road divider and overturned violently before crashing into pedestrians, killing a young man and leaving three others critically injured. The accident occurred around 2 am on Sunday at New Pahadsingpura.

The impact was so severe that after hitting the divider, the car flipped three times, became airborne and landed nearly 20 to 30 feet away on youths walking along the road. Aniket Nimbalkar (23) died on the spot, while his friend Manoj Bhillan sustained serious injuries.

Aniket, a resident of Lanjul village in Khamgaon tehsil, was pursuing an MSW degree at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University. He was staying in a rented room near the house of his maternal uncle Sandip Hiwarle (41) in Pahadsingpura along with friends. On February 8, Aniket and seven friends had gone for catering work at Icesaheb Lawn at the residence of Kailas Rothe. As no vehicle was available after work, they began walking home around 2 am. Near Harsul Jakat Naka, a car driven by Mangesh Kolte (35), a resident of Mayur Park, came speeding from behind. Kolte lost control, first hitting the divider before the car overturned and hurtled towards the pedestrians.

Second turned fatal; car fell just as they tried to move aside

Seeing the car approaching, all eight youths tried to move aside. However, within seconds, the vehicle fell on Aniket and Manoj, killing Aniket instantly. On receiving information, assistant police inspector Sachin Sadafule rushed to the spot. Police inspector Swati Kedar confirmed that a case has been registered against Kolte.

Three seriously injured

Manoj Bhillan is undergoing treatment on a ventilator at a private hospital. The car was completely mangled. Despite deployment of both airbags, Kolte and the person accompanying him sustained serious injuries and are being treated in the ICU.

Worked on holidays to support education

Aniket worked in catering on holidays to support his education and family. Manoj, a postgraduate student, had recently attended a workshop in Phulambri and was scheduled to attend another at the university on Monday. Following Aniket’s death, the workshop was cancelled and the department remained closed. Aniket’s elder brother works in Pune, where his parents reside. His last rites were performed in his native village. Hundreds of friends gathered at the Government Medical College and Hospital(GMCH) post-mortem centre, overwhelmed with grief.
