Surgeries burden two OTs as ‘Modular OT’ work begins at civil hospital

Work to convert one of the operation theatres at the civil hospital into a modular operation theatre has commenced. As a result, the burden of surgeries has increased on the remaining two operation theatres currently in operation. Consequently, patients are now facing some waiting time for surgical procedures.

The civil hospital has a total of four operation theatres. Surgeries in one of these (OT-3) have been halted after its sterilisation report came negative. Meanwhile, work to convert OT-4 into a modular operation theatre has been undertaken. Once upgraded, this operation theatre is expected to enhance patient care with advanced facilities.

At present, only OT-1 and OT-2 are functional in the hospital. As a result, the surgical load for procedures such as deliveries (caesarean and normal), hysterectomy, family planning surgeries, abortions, general surgeries, orthopaedic procedures, hernia operations, removal of lumps, and minor accident-related surgeries has increased. This has led to delays, with several patients having to wait for their turn for surgery.

Civil surgeon Dr Kamalakar Mudkhedkar stated that the work on the modular operation theatre is underway, and surgical services are being managed smoothly with the help of the two functional operation theatres.
