Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The city and surrounding areas have experienced eight days of excessive heat since May 10.
From May 1 to May 18, the maximum temperature reached 43.4°C on three occasions. The minimum temperature remained at 29.3°C.
With the rise in minimum temperature, the air was intensely hot. The increased moisture-holding capacity of the air made the heat feel even more scorching. The intensity of the heatwave has been steadily rising over the past ten days.
The Meteorological Department had warned that temperatures would remain at peak levels after May 10, and Monday made it clear that the mercury is moving in that direction.
Street activity in the city and surrounding areas slowed down significantly between 11 AM and 5 PM because of the intense heat and heatwave conditions.
Weather experts say that maximum temperatures are expected to rise further, as the Weather Department has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for heat for the next three to four days.
