Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

A 15-month-old toddler from the Paithan Gate area accidentally swallowed a stone while playing, leading to severe breathing difficulty. As the child’s condition turned critical, family members rushed him to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday night. Doctors from the ear, nose and throat department performed a bronchoscopy and successfully removed the stone lodged in the lung. The child’s oxygen level returned to normal immediately after the removal, saving his life.

The procedure was carried out under the guidance of dean Dr Shivaji Sukre. Department head Dr Sunil Deshmukh, Dr Adeeb Hussain, senior resident Dr Girija Jalnapurkar, junior residents Dr Kalyani, Dr Utkarsh, Dr Rutuja and Dr Tushar contributed to the surgery. From the anaesthesia department, Dr Ganesh Nikam and Dr Anisa managed the anaesthesia, while paediatrics department head Dr Prabha Khaire also provided crucial guidance.

Timely expert treatment helped save the child’s life, following which the parents expressed gratitude to the doctors and the entire medical team.
