Two fatal road incidents: Motorcyclist killed in Chikalthana; drunk JCB driver crushes child in Satara

A young motorcyclist was killed after being hit from behind by a speeding container near the Chikalthana weekly market. The accident occurred at around 10.15 am on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Shahbaz Qumruddin Bagwan (31,Aziz Colony, Naregaon). He earned his livelihood by handling finance-related work at a used-vehicle trading shop in Chikalthana. According to locals, Shahbaz was on his way to work on his two-wheeler when a speeding tipper coming from behind crushed him near the weekly market ground while he was heading from district civil hospital towards Cambridge Chowk. The container’s wheels reportedly ran over his head and chest, killing him on the spot. Shahbaz is survived by his wife, two sons aged two and four, and a six-month-old daughter. An accidental death case has been registered at the MIDC Cidco police station, and the container has been seized, police said.

Drunk JCB driver runs over child in Satara

In another incident, a drunk JCB driver ran over nine-year-old Rudra Jitendra Patil while he was playing outside his home in Satara’s Laxmi Colony around 7.30 pm on Sunday. The JCB, being driven at high speed, crushed the child, leaving him critically injured. Residents caught the driver while he tried to flee and handed him over to Satara police. The child is undergoing treatment in the ICU, police said.
