Thieves broke into two dry fruit shops in the densely populated Pandariba area by prying open the shutters in the middle and decamped with cash and gold-silver ornaments worth around ₹2.5 lakh. A case was registered at the City Chowk police station on May 14.

The shops belong to Deepak Badshaha (69) and his nephew Harshad, both residents of Pandariba. The duo had closed their separate shops around 11 pm on May 13 and returned home. Around 5 am on May 14, a nearby resident, Khatod, noticed the shutters of the shops had been forced open and immediately informed the owners. Badshaha and his nephew rushed to the spot, following which City Chowk police arrived and began an investigation.

Locks found discarded nearby

The thieves allegedly broke the locks, partially lifted the shutters and entered the shops. The broken locks were later found thrown nearby. From Deepak Badshaha’s shop, the burglars stole Rs 1 lakh in cash, a 5-gram gold ring and 200 grams of silver anklets, while Rs 1.5 lakh cash was stolen from his nephew’s shop. CCTV footage suggests the involvement of two to three thieves in the burglary.
