Vedantnagar police’s DB squad disbanded after MIDC Waluj

Following the dissolution of the DB Squad at MIDC Waluj Police Station, Vedantnagar Police Station has taken the same step due to its squad’s failure to curb crime. Inspector Pravina Yadav issued the order on Wednesday.
Earlier, PI Rameshwar Gade had dissolved the MIDC Waluj DB squad after officers failed to tackle crimes like chemical tanker theft. Instead of a specialized team, officers were reassigned to specific areas for patrolling in uniform. Similarly, the Vedantnagar DB squad, consisting of one sub-inspector and four officers, has been disbanded. They will now be assigned individual responsibilities for crime investigation.
What is a DB Squad?
Every police station in the city has a Crime Detection (DB) Squad responsible for investigating robberies, thefts, and other serious crimes. They also monitor repeat offenders and illegal activities.
Underperforming Squads Under Watch
DB squads at Waluj, Mukundwadi, Pundliknagar, Jinsi, Kranti Chowk, Begumpura, Daulatabad, Cidco and Jawaharnagar have struggled to deliver results. Many cases, including chain-snatching and vehicle thefts, remain unsolved. With two squads already dissolved, questions are being raised about the performance of others.
