Telangana urges CII to form Southern trade, investment block

Telangana's Industry Minister K. T. Rama Rao on Thursday urged the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to work towards creating a southern block of trade and investment.

KTR, as the Minister is popularly known, told a delegation of CII representatives that the industry body should focus on creating a block of all south Indian states and work for an industrial growth corridor.

The Minister, who also holds the Information Technology Communication, and the Municipal administration and Urban Development portfolios, told the CII that the state government is working on the Hyderabad-Warangal industrial corridor and wanted the industry body to play a catalyst role to scale up growth.

He also mentioned how the CII can become the watchdog for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in fiscal health and for their growth story.

The delegation led by Telangana CII Chairman D. Raju called on KTR, who is also the son of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.

They discussed how Telangana could become a premier investment friendly state to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the wake of the recent corporate tax cuts and compete with international destinations like Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam.

KTR urged industry to undertake highly visible and tangible CSR projects for society. The Minister also dicussed how tourism development could be fast-tracked.

The CII delegation informed the Minister that the association's Indian Green Building Council will work with the Telangana government for getting green ratings for new infrastructure projects in the state.
