Bangladesh national cricket team reached 101 for three at lunch on the opening day of the second and final Test against the Pakistan national cricket team at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Pakistan pacer Mohammad Abbas provided the early breakthroughs, while Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim guided the hosts through to lunch unbeaten.
Bangladesh endured a mixed morning session after being asked to bat first. Debutant opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim made an impressive start to his Test career, scoring a fluent 26 off 34 deliveries with three boundaries before gifting his wicket to Abbas, who completed a return catch off his own bowling.
Tanzid and Mominul Haque added 44 runs for the second wicket before the breakthrough. Mominul looked settled during his 22-run knock before pacer Khurram Shahzad bowled him to reduce Bangladesh to 63 for three.
Bangladesh had earlier suffered an immediate setback when opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy was dismissed for a duck off the second ball of the match, caught at second slip off Abbas.
At lunch, Shanto remained unbeaten on 26 off 51 balls, while Mushfiqur was batting on 18 off 31 deliveries. The pair had stitched together an unbroken 38-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
The session also witnessed a concerning moment involving Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali, who sustained a head injury after landing awkwardly while attempting a catch off his own bowling. Hasan was taken off the field on a stretcher before later returning to bowl during the session.
