India National Cricket Team vs Afghanistan National Cricket Team Match: Board of Control for Cricket in India on Monday announced India’s squads for the upcoming multi-format series against Afghanistan national cricket team, scheduled to begin after the conclusion of Indian Premier League 2026 on May 31.
India and Afghanistan will play a one-off Test followed by a three-match ODI series in June.
The solitary Test match will be held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur from June 6 to 10. The match will not be part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle.
The ODI series will begin on June 14 in Dharamsala. The second ODI will be played in Lucknow on June 17, while Chennai will host the final match on June 20.
Shubman Gill continues to lead the Test and ODI squads. In a notable move, KL Rahul has been appointed vice-captain in the Test squad ahead of Rishabh Pant.
Several uncapped players earned maiden call-ups for the Test series, including Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey and Manav Suthar. Batter Devdutt Padikkal also returned to the Test squad following impressive domestic performances.
India will be without pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who has been rested for both series.
Senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been included in the ODI squad, subject to fitness in Rohit Sharma’s case. All-rounder Hardik Pandya has also been named in the ODI squad, subject to fitness.
Youngsters Prince Yadav, Harsh Dubey and Gurnoor Brar received their maiden ODI call-ups, while wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan returned to the ODI setup. Pant was omitted from the ODI squad.
