IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings are exploring replacement options after top-order batter Ayush Mhatre was ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2026 with a left hamstring injury. Mhatre sustained the injury during Chennai’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18, adding to a growing list of fitness concerns for the franchise midway through the tournament.

The five-time champions are already dealing with multiple injury setbacks. Veteran MS Dhoni is nursing a calf strain, while pacer Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out with a quadriceps tear. Nathan Ellis is also unavailable. With the season entering a crucial phase, Chennai may look to sign a replacement to maintain balance in the squad and sustain their campaign.

Yash Dhull

Yash Dhull offers a promising long-term option. The young batter enjoyed a prolific run in domestic cricket, scoring 435 runs in eight matches in the Delhi Premier League at a strike rate of 167.31. He followed it up with 434 runs in just five matches in the Ranji Trophy, underlining his consistency across formats. Dhull’s ability to build innings while maintaining a healthy scoring rate could suit CSK’s requirements.

Swastik Chikara

The Uttar Pradesh opener has emerged as a strong contender. The right-handed opener smashed an unbeaten 195 off 69 balls for Gomti Thunder in the Ayodhya Premier League in March 2026. He was also part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s title-winning squad in IPL 2025, although he did not feature in a match.

Anmolpreet Singh

Another viable option is Anmolpreet Singh, who was also unsold in the IPL 2026 mini-auction. The right-handed batter impressed in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26, scoring 349 runs in 10 matches at an impressive strike rate of 175.37. A former player for Mumbai Indians, Anmolpreet is known for his aggressive approach at the top of the order. His attacking style could help CSK maintain momentum during the powerplay overs.

Abhinav Manohar

The right-handed batter has prior IPL experience with Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Known for his explosive hitting, Manohar has impressed in domestic T20 competitions, including a near-196 strike rate in the Maharaja Trophy. His ability to accelerate in the middle overs, along with part-time leg-spin, adds versatility to CSK’s options.

Tushar Raheja

Tushar Raheja has been in impressive form in domestic circuits, particularly in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter is capable of opening the innings and is known for his fearless stroke play. His aggressive approach closely mirrors Mhatre’s style, making him a like-for-like replacement at the top.
