The rain-delayed contest started more than an hour behind schedule, although no overs were lost. RCB successfully chased down a target of 193 in 19.1 overs, powered by an unbeaten century from Virat Kohli.
With the victory, RCB moved to 16 points from 12 matches and overtook Gujarat Titans on the basis of superior net run rate. Gujarat Titans are also on 16 points but slipped to second place.
Sunrisers Hyderabad remain third with 14 points from 12 matches, while Punjab Kings occupy fourth place with 13 points from 11 games.
The result dealt a major blow to KKR’s playoff hopes. The former champions stayed eighth in the standings with nine points from 11 matches and now face a difficult path to qualification.
Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants continue to remain at the bottom of the table with six points each and are already out of playoff contention.
