Chasing a challenging target of 204, Chennai Super Kings rode on a sensational 65 off just 23 balls from Urvil Patel, who equalled Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record for the fastest IPL fifty by an Indian, reaching the landmark in only 13 deliveries.
Urvil’s explosive knock, which included eight sixes and two fours, gave CSK complete control of the chase before Lucknow staged a comeback through regular wickets in the middle overs.
With pressure mounting in the closing stages, Prashant Veer and Shivam Dube guided Chennai home with four balls to spare. Dube remained unbeaten on 15 off seven balls, while Prashant survived two dropped chances during his crucial cameo.
The victory lifted CSK into the top five of the IPL 2026 points table, ahead of Rajasthan Royals on net run rate, with three league matches still remaining.
Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants made a blazing start after being put in to bat, thanks to a destructive innings from Josh Inglis. The Australian wicketkeeper-batter smashed 85 off 33 deliveries, including 10 fours and six sixes, to put the visitors in a commanding position.
However, English all-rounder Jamie Overton turned the tide for Chennai with figures of 3/36, triggering a middle-order collapse. Shahbaz Ahmed then provided late momentum with an unbeaten 43 off 25 balls to help LSG post 203/8 in 20 overs.
