IPL 2026, PBKS vs MI Today Match: Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya is not part of the playing XI for match 58 of the Indian Premier League 2026 against Punjab Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday, May 14, 2026, due to a back spasm.
Hardik has been unavailable for Mumbai Indians’ last few matches and was not cleared for selection by the franchise’s medical team.
In the absence of Hardik and vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav, who missed the game due to personal reasons, senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah leading Mumbai Indians in Dharamsala.
Hardik has struggled for consistency this season, scoring 146 runs and taking four wickets in eight matches so far in IPL 2026.
Mumbai Indians confirmed Bumrah’s appointment as stand-in captain ahead of the match. “A kid with a unique action bowled yorkers at will. That same kid, now a legend of the game will lead the Blue & Gold in Dharamshala. A journey to be proud of, Captain Jasprit!” MI wrote.
Bumrah has been part of Mumbai Indians since making his IPL debut in 2013 and has now become the 10th player to captain the five-time champions in the tournament’s history.
Although this is his first IPL match as MI captain, Jasprit Bumrah already has leadership experience at the international level. He has captained India in two T20 Internationals and three Test matches.
Bumrah made his T20I captaincy debut against Ireland in August 2023, while his first Test as India captain came against England in Birmingham in July 2022. He also led India during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia.
MI have already been eliminated from the playoff race after a disappointing campaign in which they managed only three wins from 11 matches. Despite being out of contention, the five-time champions will aim to finish the season on positive note.
