IPL 2026, PBKS vs MI Today Match: Jasprit Bumrah is leading Mumbai Indians in Match 58 of the Indian Premier League 2026 against Punjab Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
Bumrah stepped in as captain with regular skipper Hardik Pandya unavailable due to a back spasm, while stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav missed the game because of personal reasons.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians confirmed Bumrah’s appointment as stand-in captain ahead of the match. “A kid with a unique action bowled yorkers at will. That same kid, now a legend of the game will lead the Blue & Gold in Dharamshala. A journey to be proud of, Captain Jasprit!” MI wrote.
After winning the toss, Bumrah elected to bowl first and said the team expected the pitch to settle under cooler evening conditions in Dharamsala.
“We have decided to bowl first. We saw the last game and felt maybe with the cold weather coming down the wicket will settle down. I didn't think that I will be a Test captain before becoming MI captain. Three games left, and we want to enjoy and maybe ruffle a few teams. Suryakumar Yadav is not here for personal reasons, and Allah Ghazanfar is not there as well,” he said at the toss.
Bumrah has been part of Mumbai Indians since making his IPL debut in 2013 and has now become the 10th player to captain the five-time champions in the tournament’s history.
Although this is his first IPL match as MI captain, Jasprit Bumrah already has leadership experience at the international level. He has captained India in two T20 Internationals and three Test matches.
Bumrah made his T20I captaincy debut against Ireland in August 2023, while his first Test as India captain came against England in Birmingham in July 2022. He also led India during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia.
