IPL 2026: Former India opener Virender Sehwag faced criticism on social media after mistakenly referring to India pacer Jasprit Bumrah as “Chumrah” during a discussion ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 clash between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings. The incident occurred during a segment on Cricbuzz while Sehwag was analysing Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack. The former batter immediately corrected himself after the slip-up, but the clip quickly went viral across social media platforms. Several fans reacted strongly online, questioning Sehwag’s remarks about the star fast bowler.

Here's How Netizens Reacted:

The viral moment came on the same day Bumrah retained the No. 1 position in the ICC Test bowling rankings. Bumrah remained the top-ranked Test bowler with 879 rating points in the latest ICC rankings released on Wednesday.

Despite his dominance in red-ball cricket, Bumrah has endured a difficult IPL 2026 campaign. The right-arm fast bowler has managed only three wickets in 11 matches this season. He has conceded 349 runs in 41 overs at an economy rate of 8.51 and averages 116.33 with the ball.

Bumrah has gone wicketless in eight matches this season and has struggled to produce the match-winning spells that have defined his T20 career. His returns include figures of 0/35 against Kolkata Knight Riders, 0/41 against Punjab Kings and 0/54 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

However, Bumrah’s performances in Test cricket continue to keep him ahead of the world’s leading bowlers. The ICC rankings are based on sustained performances in the longest format, where Bumrah has consistently delivered across conditions with his pace, control and ability to break partnerships.

Australia pacers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins climbed to second and fourth positions respectively in the latest rankings, while New Zealand seamer Matt Henry moved up to third.

Among Indian bowlers, Mohammed Siraj is ranked 12th, while Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav occupy the 14th and 15th spots respectively.
