IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings have suffered a major setback in their Indian Premier League 2026 playoff push after seam-bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton sustained a thigh injury ahead of the crucial clash against Lucknow Super Giants. CSK confirmed that Overton has picked up a right thigh injury and will return to the United Kingdom for further assessment and treatment.

“Jamie Overton has a right thigh injury and will be returning to the UK for further assessment and management,” the franchise said in an official statement on social media.

The injury comes at a difficult stage of the season for Chennai Super Kings, who remain in contention for a playoff spot despite an inconsistent campaign.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side currently sit fifth on the points table with 12 points from 11 matches, having won six and lost five. CSK have revived their season in recent weeks with three consecutive victories and still have a chance of finishing in the top four if they win their remaining league games.

Overton has been one of CSK’s standout performers this season with both bat and ball.

The England all-rounder featured in 10 matches and claimed 14 wickets at an average of 17.79 and an economy rate of 8.89. He also delivered a crucial three-wicket haul in the previous match against Lucknow Super Giants.

Apart from his bowling contributions, Overton scored 136 runs in six innings, including an unbeaten 43-run knock that helped CSK in a tense chase earlier in the tournament.

Overton’s absence is expected to put additional pressure on Chennai’s pace attack during the final phase of the league stage. His ability to provide breakthroughs in the middle overs and contribute lower-order runs made him a vital part of the side’s balance.

CSK are scheduled to face Lucknow Super Giants on May 15 before taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18 and Gujarat Titans on May 21.

With the playoff race tightening, Chennai will now need other bowlers to step up quickly in Overton’s absence as they attempt to secure a place in the knockouts.
