However, ahead of the match, fans are once again eager to know whether veteran wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni will finally return to action.

Dhoni has not played a single match in IPL 2026 so far due to a calf injury. The former CSK captain was initially expected to miss only the opening phase of the tournament, but his absence has now extended deep into the season.

Despite being spotted training in the nets on multiple occasions, there has been no official confirmation regarding his match fitness. Reports also suggest that Dhoni himself does not want to disturb CSK’s current winning combination as the team continues its push for a playoff spot.

According to reports, Dhoni was expected to travel with the CSK squad to Lucknow but later decided against it. While the franchise has not issued an official statement on his availability, reports indicate that the 43-year-old is unlikely to feature against LSG.

CSK had defeated LSG earlier this month at Chepauk while successfully chasing down a target of 204 runs. Another victory in Lucknow would significantly strengthen Chennai’s playoff hopes heading into the final phase of the league stage.
