In a statement posted on their official social media handle, the Delhi Capitals said, “Ngidi is stable and is expected to be discharged shortly from the hospital.”
Separately, the IPL’s official handle stated, “Lungisani Ngidi of Delhi Capitals hit his head on the ground while attempting to take a catch during his team’s match against Punjab Kings. He was shifted to the hospital in an ambulance after complaining of a headache and neck pain. Ngidi is stable and is expected to be discharged shortly from the hospital.”
Ngidi suffered the injury while attempting a catch in the third over of the second innings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Tracking back from mid-off off Axar Patel’s bowling, the South African pacer lost balance and fell awkwardly, with the back of his head striking the ground.
Medical staff attended to Ngidi on the field before he was stretchered off and transported to hospital by ambulance after complaining of headache and neck pain.
Following the incident, Vipraj Nigam was introduced as a concussion substitute in line with IPL protocols.
