IPL Playoffs Scenario 2026: Rajasthan Royals suffered a major setback in their playoff push after a heavy 77-run defeat against Gujarat Titans in Match 52 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday, May 9, 2026. The loss not only denied RR two crucial points but also significantly damaged their Net Run Rate, which could become a decisive factor during the closing stages of the league campaign.

Before the match against Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals were comfortably placed in the top four with 12 points and a healthy Net Run Rate of +0.510. However, the crushing defeat saw their Net Run Rate drop sharply to 0.082, tightening the playoff race further.
Despite the setback, Rajasthan Royals remain firmly in contention for a playoff berth.
The Riyan Parag-led side currently has 12 points from 11 matches and still has three league-stage fixtures remaining. Victories in all three matches would take RR to 18 points, which would guarantee qualification for the playoffs.
Historically, 16 points has generally been considered the safe qualification mark in the 10-team IPL format. Teams reaching that mark in recent seasons have almost always secured a top-four finish.
For Rajasthan Royals, reaching 16 points would require at least two wins from their remaining three matches.
However, another defeat could complicate matters significantly and leave their qualification hopes dependent on other results and Net Run Rate calculations.
If RR manage only one victory in their final three games, they would finish on 14 points and would likely need favourable outcomes from other teams to stay alive in the playoff race.
The Royals are scheduled to face Delhi Capitals on May 17, followed by clashes against Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians later in the month.
The defeat against Gujarat Titans also exposed concerns in RR’s bowling and middle-order batting ahead of the crucial final phase of the tournament.
GT posted a massive total of 229/4 after captain Shubman Gill smashed 84 and Sai Sudharsan scored 55.
In reply, Rajasthan Royals were bowled out for 152, with Rashid Khan starring for Gujarat Titans with four wickets.
With several teams closely packed in the middle of the standings, RR will now need a strong finish to secure a place in the IPL 2026 playoffs.
