RCB Sale: Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) CEO Adar Poonawalla on Thursday, January 22, confirmed he would place a successful bid to buy the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He said he will submit a "strong and a competitive bid" to acquire the Virat Kohli-led RCB team in the coming months.

Poonawalla announced in a post on X (formerly Twitter) stating one of the best team of IPL. "Over the next few months, I will be putting in a STRONG and COMPETITIVE bid for @RCBTweets, one of the best teams in the IPL," Poonawalla wrote.

In October 2025, Poonawalla had shown interest in buying out the franchise in a post on X. "At the right valuation, @RCBTweets is a great team," he had written.

Poonawalla's statement came after Diageo, the parent company of United Spirits Ltd. (USL), announced to put RCB on sale. The move followed RCB’s first IPL title win in 2025, which ended the franchise’s long wait for the trophy.
