The Maharashtra Education Department has accelerated the online admission process for First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions this year to ensure that the 2026-27 academic session starts on time. Education Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh announced that Class 11 sessions across the state will officially commence from July 1. He shared the update while addressing the media after the declaration of the SSC Class 10 examination results on Friday. The department has initiated the admission process earlier than usual this year in an effort to avoid delays that frequently disrupt the academic calendar and impact students waiting for junior college admissions across Maharashtra after completing their SSC examinations successfully.
Every Year, FYJC Admissions Face Delays
Every year, the FYJC admission process faces delays because of multiple admission rounds and recurring technical issues, particularly in rural regions of Maharashtra. Due to these setbacks, admissions often continue even after the Diwali festival, leading to significant academic disruption for students. Responding to concerns regarding repeated delays, Commissioner Singh stated that nearly 90 per cent of students usually secure admissions during the initial rounds itself. However, additional rounds become necessary when some students fail to get seats in their preferred colleges during the early stages of the process. This extended procedure eventually pushes the completion of admissions further into the academic term every year.
Technical Issues In Rural Areas Add To Delays
The commissioner explained that technical challenges in several rural areas also play a major role in slowing down the admission process. To prevent students from facing academic loss, the Education Department is compelled to continue conducting additional admission rounds until all available seats are filled. He pointed out that the SSC examination results were declared five days earlier this year compared to the previous year, allowing the department to begin the online admission process sooner. Authorities are now concentrating on ensuring that the entire admission cycle progresses smoothly so that junior college classes can begin according to schedule without unnecessary interruptions or prolonged delays affecting students across different districts in Maharashtra.
Registration Details And Admission Portal Information
Commissioner Singh further stated that the remaining admissions will be completed quickly through upcoming rounds conducted by the department. He urged students to complete the online registration process within the stipulated deadline by uploading all required documents and carefully selecting their preferred colleges. Students seeking admission to Class 11 must register through the Maharashtra FYJC admission portal at mahafyjcadmissions.in/landing. According to official figures released by the Education Department, nearly 7,77,233 students have already completed Part-1 registration on the portal. Additionally, 9,594 junior colleges from across Maharashtra have registered for the admission process. Officials added that the Part-2 process for selecting colleges will begin shortly.
