A senior official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has been booked for allegedly sexually harassing a woman employee working in the same office. The accused has been identified as Irfan Pathan (52), who is posted as an Office Superintendent.

According to the FIR registered at Azad Maidan Police Station, the 28-year-old complainant is employed at the BMC headquarters. In her complaint, she alleged that ever since joining the office, the accused had been harassing her with inappropriate sexual behaviour.

Sources said the victim had once allegedly slapped the accused in front of other staff members over his behaviour. However, despite the warning, he allegedly continued to harass her, following which she approached the police and lodged a formal complaint.

The police have registered a case against the accused under Section 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and further investigation is underway.
