The University of Mumbai has initiated the pre-registration process for first-year undergraduate admissions for the academic year 2026–27, as stated in an official release issued on Wednesday. Students can now begin registering through the university’s online admission portal, which has been accepting applications since April 13. This early registration phase aims to streamline the admission procedure before the declaration of Class 12 results. Applicants are advised to complete this step within the given timeline to avoid last-minute complications and ensure they are eligible to proceed with the next stage once results are officially announced.

Two-Step Admission Process

The university has introduced a structured two-phase admission system:

  • Part 1: Pre-Registration – Must be completed before the Class 12 results are declared

  • Part 2: Application Form – To be filled after the results are announced

Students are required to complete the pre-registration step first before moving on to the final application process.

Profile Creation and Required Information

Once registered, students will receive login credentials to access their accounts and create a detailed profile. They must provide:

  • Personal details such as name, address, and contact number

  • Educational qualifications

  • Reservation category, if applicable

  • Photograph and signature

  • Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) ID

Accurate information is essential to avoid issues during verification.

ABC ID Made Compulsory

The university has made it mandatory for all applicants to have an Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) ID during the pre-admission stage. Students who do not have an ABC ID must generate one through the official government portal before proceeding with registration.

What is the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC)?

The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), introduced by the Ministry of Education, is a digital platform designed to store and manage students’ academic credits. Built in line with the National Education Policy 2020 and supported by the National Credit Framework, it acts as a comprehensive academic repository. It allows learners at all stages—from school to higher education and even professional upskilling—to store, transfer, and track their academic progress throughout their educational journey.

Courses and Colleges Covered

The registration process applies to a wide range of programmes and institutions, including:

  • Arts, Commerce, and Science streams

  • Affiliated, autonomous, aided, and unaided colleges

  • Recognised institutions and university departments

  • Sub-campuses in Thane, Kalyan, and Ratnagiri districts of Maharashtra

All principals, directors, and department heads have been instructed to ensure smooth implementation of the admission process.

How to Apply

Students can visit the official website of the University of Mumbai and navigate to the “Admissions” section to access the pre-registration link. They must complete both registration and profile creation to remain eligible for admission once the Class 12 results are declared.
