Actor and film critic Mahesh Kathi dies after road accident

Fimmaker, actor, and critic Mahesh Kathi who sustained injuries in a road accident, passed away today. at a private hospital in Chennai. He had last month met with an accident near Chandrasekharapuram village in Kodavalur Mandal of Nellore district.the hospital management confirmed the news and said, “Kathi Mahesh passed away at 4 PM on July 10. His condition was serious since Friday night and he passed away due to respiratory complications.” On June 26, the actor was in his vehicle when it rammed into a container truck, leaving him severely injured. He was shifted to a private hospital in Chennai for treatment and the AP government even provided funds of Rs 17 lakh for it.

Last seen in Gopichand Malineni’s Ravi Teja and Shruti Haasan starrer Krack, Mahesh Kathi was known for being a film critic too. He gained fame after being a contestant on the Telugu version of Bigg Boss in season 1, hosted by Jr NTR. He started his career with Edari Varsham and was the co-writer of Minugurulu – the first Telugu script to be preserved in the Oscar Library’s permanent collection. It was also the first Telugu film to content for the Academy Awards in the Best Feature Film category. He made the first crowdfunded short film in Telugu titled Pesarattu, which used flowcam technology popularised by Ram Gopal Varma. He also made the film Egise Tara Juvvalu which showed the need for developing a scientific curiosity in children. Actor Nani mourned the loss of Kathi and shared a tweet that read, “Shocked to hear that Kathi Mahesh gaaru passed away. From what I’ve seen, he always tried to encourage films with unique content through his reviews. Strength to his family and friends.”
