The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in change of plans of many filmmakers in Bollywood and filmmaker Shoojit Sircar is no exception.  The Vicky Donor director in a recent interview with Mumbai Mirror said that he is open to the idea of releasing his film on the web. Elaborating on his plans the director says, “As a filmmaker, I’d want to see my film open in the theatres, but the situation today is unlike anything anyone had ever experienced. So, I’m open to a digital release if need be, but we will take a decision after May 3.”

Starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan, Gulabo Sitabo was set to release on April 17.  Set in Lucknow, the film follows the story of two eponymous glove puppet characters Gulabo and Sitabo who depict the day to day struggles of the common man through local humour and songs. Meanwhile, the director clearly stated that his most ambitious project Sardar Uddham Singh biopic starring Vicky Kaushal will release in theatres only. The movie is still in its post-production stage. Gulabo Sitabo marks Ayushmann and Shoojit’s second collaboration after the actor’s successful debut film Vicky Donor in 2012.
