Malayalam actor Santhosh Nair passed away after meeting with a tragic road accident in Pathanamthitta’s Enathu area. According to reports, the car in which he was travelling rammed into a lorry, leaving several people injured. His wife, Shubhashree, also sustained injuries in the collision and is currently undergoing treatment. While receiving medical care, the actor reportedly suffered a heart attack, which further worsened his condition. Despite efforts by doctors, he could not be saved. Reports also stated that the lorry driver was injured in the crash. The sudden demise of the veteran actor has left the Malayalam film industry and his admirers deeply shocked and saddened.
Santhosh Nair began his acting career in 1982 with the Malayalam film ‘Ithu Njangalude Katha’ and went on to become a familiar face in the industry. Across a career spanning decades, he acted in more than 100 films, performing a wide range of roles including villains, heroes, supporting characters, and comic parts. Born on November 12, 1960, in Thiruvananthapuram, his full name was Santhosh Kesavan Nayar. He came from an academically accomplished family, with his father, C. N. Kesavan Nair, serving as a retired headmaster and his mother, P. Rajalakshmiamma, working as a retired teacher in Kerala.
The actor spent his childhood in Pettah alongside his two sisters before being raised by his maternal grandparents when his parents shifted to Ethiopia. He completed his schooling at St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School and later studied mathematics at Mahatma Gandhi College. During his student years, he was actively associated with political activities and campus discussions. While both his sisters pursued successful careers as gynaecologists, Santhosh Nair decided to follow his passion for cinema and acting. Over the years, he established himself as a versatile performer known for adapting to different kinds of roles in Malayalam films and television productions.
Santhosh Nair’s latest film, ‘Mohiniyattam’, which is currently being screened in theatres, has now become his final appearance on the big screen. Meanwhile, ‘Bharathanatyam 2: Mohiniyattam’, featuring Saiju Kurup in a prominent role, is preparing for its digital premiere. The sequel to the 2024 film ‘Bharathanatyam’ was released in cinemas on April 10 and is scheduled to begin streaming on Netflix from May 8. Directed by Krishnadas Murali, the film revolves around Sasidharan Nair’s family as they face a tense and complicated situation. The cast includes Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vinay Forrt, Jagadish, and the late Santhosh Nair.
