A major accident took place early on Sunday near the Kalamboli toll plaza on the Sion–Panvel section of the Mumbai–Pune Expressway after a car crashed into a pickup truck from behind. Reports stated that a silver-grey car hit a white pickup vehicle with considerable force, indicating that the car may have been travelling at a high speed at the time of the collision. Meanwhile, another serious road accident was reported near Shilphata late at night, leading to heavy congestion and a lengthy road-clearing operation on the Thane–Shilphata route. According to reports, an Ashok Leyland container truck carrying seven Tata cars from Gujarat to Pune allegedly lost control and crashed into the rear side of a Tata truck travelling ahead. The force of the collision caused severe disruption on the highway and created difficulties for commuters using the route as officials worked continuously to restore normal traffic conditions.
The second truck involved in the Shilphata accident was reportedly transporting nearly six tons of paint barrels from Bhiwandi to Khopoli. Due to the impact of the crash, several barrels overturned and large amounts of paint spilled across the road surface. The leakage created slippery and dangerous driving conditions for motorists passing through the area. Emergency teams and local authorities rushed to the site to conduct a cleanup operation and prevent further accidents. Traffic movement remained slow for several hours as workers removed damaged material and cleared the highway. Officials monitored the area closely to ensure the safety of commuters using the affected lane.
