Sidharth Malhotra’s Father Sunil Malhotra Passes Away; Actor Pens Emotional Note

Sunil Malhotra, father of Bollywood actor Sidharth Malhotra and a former Merchant Navy captain, died in New Delhi on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026. According to media reports, the last rites were held in the national capital in the presence of close family members. Sidharth and his wife, actor Kiara Advani, rushed to Delhi after receiving the news to attend the funeral and be with the family. The couple is expected to remain in the city for a few days following the ceremonies.

According to a report by India Today, Sunil Malhotra had been unwell for a considerable period. The exact cause of death has not been made public, but his health had reportedly been declining. The report said the family is grieving and has asked for privacy as they deal with the loss.

Sunil Malhotra was a significant influence in his son’s life. Sidharth Malhotra had often spoken about his admiration for his father, describing him as his “favorite hero” and a source of inspiration.  

In a post on Instagram on Tuesday, Sidharth shared photographs from family moments and paid tribute to his father. "He was a man of rare honesty, integrity and culture. He lived by values that never bent. Discipline without harshness. Strength without ego. Positivity, even when life tested him beyond measure," actor wrote.

 "From commanding the seas as a Merchant Navy Captain to facing illness with quiet courage, he never compromised, never lost his grace. Even when the stroke confined him to a wheelchair, his spirit stood tall," he added.

"Papa, your integrity is my inheritance. Your strength guides me every day. Your positivity still holds this family together. You left us peacefully in your sleep, but the space you leave behind is immeasurable. I am who I am because of you. And I will carry your name, your values and your light forward always. Love you Dad," Sidharth concluded.

Sidharth Malhotra was last seen in the film “Param Sundari” alongside Janhvi Kapoor. He will next appear in “Vvan – Force of the Forrest” with Tamannaah Bhatia.

Advani is preparing for the release of “Toxic” with Yash, scheduled to hit theatres on March 19.
