Veteran actor Chandrashekhar Vaidya of 'Ramayan' fame dies in Mumbai at 97

Veteran Bollywood actor Chandrashekhar has died at the age of 97 after prolonged illness on Wednesday at his Mumbai residence. Chandrashekhar Vaidya was a popular actor of 1950's and he has worked in films like Kaali Topi Laal Rumaal, Baradari, Street Singer and Rustom e Baghdad . Chandrashekhar also introduced the Cha Cha Cha dance to Indian cinema with a film of the same name in 1964. He has appeared in over 112 films since his debut in Aurat Teri Yehi Kahani in 1954 by V Shantaram. His other works include Kati Patang, Basant Bahar and Sharabi. Chandrashekhar was also part of Ramanand Sagar's TV series Ramayana.

Talking to Etimes, his son Ashok said, " "He was in the hospital for a day, last Thursday. We brought him back home and had kept all facilities including oxygen at our disposal if the need would arise. He was okay last night. The end was peaceful." The senior actor also served as the President of CINTAA from 1985 to 1996. The yesteryear star's last rites will take place at 3pm at Vile Parle Crematorium in Mumbai. He was also the maternal grandfather of Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka fame actor Shakti Arora. Shakti Arora has appeared in TV shows like Tere Liye, Pavitra Rishta, Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi, Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka to name a few. He is married to TV actress Neha Saxena.
