New Delhi [India], May 31 : Former England striker Wayne Rooney opened up about the time when manager David Moyes sued him after he made a switch from Everton to Manchester United.

Moyes played a crucial role in Rooney's career and handed him his first-team debut at Everton in 2002. Rooney rapidly rose to success by showcasing his remarkable talent on the field, especially in front of the goal.

In 2004, Rooney made a switch to Manchester United for £30 million, which marked the beginning of the relationship going downhill between him and Moyes. The tension between Rooney and Moyes came into the limelight in 2008 when the manager sued Rooney over the claims he made in his autobiography, "My Story So Far."

In his book, Rooney accused his former manager of leaking details of a private conversation that he had with him regarding his plans to move away from Everton.

Moyes was furious about the claim and sued Rooney. In the end, Rooney withdrew the accusations he made and also issued a public apology to Moyes.

During a conversation with Gary Neville on "The Overlap" Rooney admitted that he regretted over the entire incident.

"David Moyes was really good for me at Everton. He sued me after I left the clubI hammered him when I left because of how I felt at the time. I regret that. I spoke to him a few years after I left, I called him up and apologized because the older you get, you realize why he was doing things. It was new to him to have a player getting all those headlines, for him to figure out. He was a young manager at the time, it was new to him. When I look back, he was good for me, he was constantly on me. He was trying to not let me think that I was better than I was. I was a handful in my youth. In the indoor gym, I was launching rockets from one end to the other. Moysey walked in when I was just 16," Rooney said in The Overlap as quoted from Goal.com.

Moyes is now a free agent after leaving West Ham United at the end of the recently concluded Premier League season.
