The state is expected to experience rise in temperature in coming days, with a possibility of heatwave conditions occurring in isolated pockets. Following this citizens should take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the rising heatwave.

Reports indicate a rise in the number of patients suffering from colds and fevers due to the escalating heat. As the rising temperatures are impacting public health, citizens are urged to remain vigilant.

Summer is Intensifying: What Should You Do Now?

  • Drink water every half hour. Use an umbrella or a hat when stepping out of the house.
  • Use curtains and shutters to shield your home from direct sunlight.
  • Stay informed about heatwave updates by checking the radio, television, or newspapers.
  • Wear light, loose-fitting cotton clothing.
  • Carry drinking water with you while traveling.
  • When working outdoors in the sun, cover your head, neck, and face with a hat, an umbrella, or a damp cloth.
  • To replenish body fluids, consume ORS, homemade lassi, raw mango drink (Panha), lemon water, buttermilk, etc.
  • Recognize the signs of heatstroke, such as weakness, headaches, and excessive sweating.
  • If you feel dizzy or lightheaded, seek immediate medical advice.
  • Keep livestock in shaded shelters and ensure they have access to adequate drinking water.
  • Use curtains, shutters, and sunshades to keep your home cool.
  • Keep windows open during the night.
  • Make use of fans and damp cloths to stay cool.
  • Take cool showers or baths periodically.
  • Ensure that cool drinking water is available at the workplace.
  • Workers should be instructed to avoid direct exposure to sunlight.
  • Complete the majority of your work tasks during the early morning hours.
  • If working outdoors, take frequent breaks in between tasks.

Pay extra attention to the care and well-being of pregnant women and sick workers. What Not to Do

  • Avoid strenuous physical activity in the sun.
  • Do not consume alcoholic beverages, tea, coffee, or carbonated soft drinks.
  • Avoid going outdoors between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
  • Do not consume high-protein or stale food.
  • Do not leave young children or pets inside a closed, parked vehicle.
  • Avoid wearing dark, tight-fitting, or thick clothing.
  • Avoid cooking during the hottest hours of the day.
  • Keep kitchen doors and windows open.
