Insisting that many people are not willing to get the RT-PCR test done, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday said the only way to do more testing is through rapid testing kits, which the Centre has not sanctioned yet.

Speaking to media, Jain said the frontline workers, who are working day and night, have a higher chance of getting the COVID-19.

"Mandatory testing of government officers has some issues. The Centre has made a protocol for these tests. In these protocols, there are set guidelines in place. The only way to do more testing is via rapid testing kits which the centre has not sanctioned yet. On the other hand, the RT-PCR test has a complicated procedure and not many are willing to get this test done," Jain said.

He said the doubling rate of cases in Delhi is 11-12 days. "We would be in a more comfortable position if the doubling rate is 20 or more".

Jain said the plan for lockdown 4.0 is being formulated, keeping social distancing and other protocols in mind.

"Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had sought suggestions from the public. We got around 5 lakh suggestions and these are being processed and a policy is being made. In a day or two, you will know what areas of activity will be opened. Social distancing will be strictly followed."

Jain said people will "have to live with COVID-19" and to protect themselves, five most important points we all should remember: social distancing, wearing a mask, washing hands, being extra cautious for senior citizens and for people with comorbidity.

He said nine deaths were reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths to 115 in the city.

With a record number of 472 new cases reported in a day, Delhi's tally of coronavirus patients has jumped to 8,470 with 5,310 active cases.
