Hyderabad, Sep 21 The weekly dip in Covid-19 tests in Telangana saw the daily count of infections dropping to 1,302, officials said on Monday.

Like every weekend, the authorities conducted fewer tests, resulting in the daily count slumping to below 2,000. With this the state's tally has gone up to 1,72,608.

During the last 24 hours ending 8 p.m., nine people succumbed to the virus, pushing the death toll to 1,042.

The case fatality rate in the state stands at 0.60 per cent as against the national average of 1.60 per cent.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reported 266 new cases during the last 24 hours. Its neighbouring districts Rangareddy and Medchal Malkajgiri reported a daily jump of 98 and 24 cases respectively. Sangareddy, another district bordering the state capital, recorded 54 cases.

Outside Hyderabad, Karimnagar topped the list with 102 cases followed by Siddipet (92), Nalgonda (70) and Nizamabad (50).

According to a media bulletin released from the office of the director of public health and family welfare, 31,095 tests were conducted on Saturday-Sunday against 50,000 to 60,000 tests on weekdays.

The state also reached a milestone of 25 lakh tests. So far 25,19,315 tests have been conducted

Samples tested per million population improved further to 67,858. This is much higher than the daily testing target of 5,600 per day as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) benchmark of 140 per million per day.

A total of 17 government-run laboratories, 43 private laboratories and 1,076 rapid antigen test centres are conducting the tests.

More people recovered from Covid-19 than the new positive cases detected during the last 24 hours.

As many as 2,230 people recovered from the virus, taking the total recoveries to 1,41,930. The recovery rate jumped to 82.22 per cent against the national average of 79.87 per cent.

The number of active cases in the state stands at 29,636, including 22,990 in home/institutional isolation.

As many as 65.23 per cent of those tested positive were in the age group of 21-50 years while 21.82 were above 51 years of age. The positive cases include 12.95 per cent who were below 20 years.

Officials said 64.83 per cent of those tested positive were male, while the remaining 38.17 per cent were female.

Out of 20,396 Covid beds under government, 17,812 beds are vacant, including 1,506 ICU beds.

A total of 223 private hospitals treating the Covid patients have 11,055 beds, out of which 6,993 are vacant.
