New Delhi [India], July 9 : Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will lead an Indian Parliamentary Delegation (IPD) to the tenth BRICS Parliamentary Forum (PF) to be held in St. Petersburg, Russia on July 11 and 12, 2024.

The Delegation will also comprise Harivansh, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha; Shambhu Sharan Patel, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha; Utpal Kumar Singh, Secretary General, Lok Sabha; P.C. Mody, Secretary General, Rajya Sabha. Anjani Kumar, Joint Secretary, Lok Sabha Secretariat is the Secretary to the Delegation.

The overall theme of the Tenth BRICS Parliamentary Forum is 'The Role of Parliaments in Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security.'

Speakers/Presiding Officers, Members of Parliament from BRICS Countries and Invitee countries, namely, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazhakstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan and the President of Inter-Parliamentary Union, Tulia Ackson, will participate in the meetings of BRICS Parliamentary Forum.

Lok Sabha Speaker will deliver speeches during the Plenary Sessions on two sub-themes namely 'The BRICS Parliamentary dimension: Prospects for strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation' and 'The role of Parliaments in countering the fragmentation of the multilateral trade system and overcoming threats related to the consequences of global crises'.

Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha will also address this Forum during the Plenary Sessions on two sub-themes viz 'The role of Parliaments in enhancing the efficiency of the system of international relations and ensuring its democratization' and'Inter-parliamentary cooperation in the humanitarian and cultural spheres'. A joint statement will be adopted at the end of the Summit.

On the sidelines of this forum, Om Birla may also hold bilateral meetings with his Presiding Officers of participating Parliaments.

The Lok Sabha Speaker will also meet members of the Indian Diaspora in Moscow, Russia during his visit.
