Against the backdrop of Pakistan's war rhetoric against India, its army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday held a meeting with Corps Commanders which deliberated on the situation on the Line of Control (LoC) and Jammu and Kashmir, besides other security issues.

The meeting also discussed Pakistan's internal security situation against the backdrop of the 'Azadi march' led by leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, to demand the ouster of Prime Minister Imran Khan, with Bajwa vowing to support "national institutions" and not allowing "reversal" of the country's stability "to suit any vested agenda".

The 226th Corps Commanders' Conference was held at the General Headquarters based in Rawalpindi, an army statement said.

"The forum reviewed geo-strategic and national security environment," it said, adding that internal security, situation along the eastern border, LoC and Jammu and Kashmir were also discussed.

"Commanders expressed firm resolve to defend the country against full spectrum threat," the statement said.

Quoting Bajwa, it said, "We have attained better internal security and stability through cohesive national efforts and sacrifices rendered by Pakistan Armed forces, all national institutions and above all the nation. We shall not let it reverse to suit any vested agenda at any cost."

He went on to add, "Pakistan Army as an organ of the state will continue to support national institutions as and when asked as per the Constitution. While Pakistan Armed Forces with support of national institutions and the nation are fully prepared and committed to thwart all threats, including on eastern border/LoC, continued cohesion of all national stakeholders on key national issues is essential to defeat inimical forces."

The meeting assumes significance as Pakistan has been resorting to heightened war hysteria vis-a-vis India in the aftermath of abolition of special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories in August.
