US state department spokesperson Ned Price on Tuesday spoke about the effects of sanctions imposed by western nations on Russia. Ned on Twitter said, "We’re already starting to see effects of sanctions on Russia.1. Ruble has fallen in value, worth less than one cent2. S&P downgraded Russia’s sovereign debt to “junk” status3. Russian stock market is closed until at least March 5."

The war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on since Thursday morning. Russian forces not only infiltrated the Ukrainian border but also bombed largely populated areas. After seizing control of some Ukrainian cities, the Russian military is now trying to capture the capital, Kyiv. This has increased the threat to the city of Kyiv.
