In Hindu calendar, Akshaya Tritiya is consider as holy and auspicious day and important Muhurats in whole year. This year Akshaya Tritiya falls on May 19, 2026 is considered an exceptionally auspicious occasion not merely for purchasing gold, but for undertaking 'Akshaya' (everlasting) endeavors that herald good fortune.

This year, planting a Tulsi (Holy Basil) sapling in your home during this auspicious period is believed to be immensely fruitful for attaining happiness, prosperity, and spiritual growth. Akshaya Tritiya signifies a day of imperishability a day on which nothing ever diminishes. Any acts of charity, chanting of mantras, or virtuous deeds performed on this day yield rewards manifold. Recognized as one of the three-and-a-half most auspicious muhurtas (timings) of the year, this day is considered the absolute best for planting Tulsi as a means to invoke the divine grace of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.

Why Plant a Tulsi Sapling?

Tulsi is revered as 'Haripriya' meaning she is immensely beloved by Lord Vishnu. According to religious belief, Goddess Lakshmi resides permanently in any home that nurtures a lush, vibrant, and healthy Tulsi plant. Whether you choose to plant 'Rama' Tulsi (characterized by green leaves) or 'Shyama' Tulsi (characterized by purplish leaves), both possess equal significance in terms of their Ayurvedic and spiritual value.

  • Tulsi Planting: Essential Materials and Preparation
  • Materials: A new Tulsi sapling, soil, cow-dung manure, a new flower pot, water, a lamp (Diya), and flowers.
  • Guidelines: On the day of Akshaya Tritiya, wake up early in the morning (during the Brahma Muhurta), take a ritual bath, offer Arghya (water oblation) to the Sun God, and resolve to perform the worship ceremony.

The Scripturally Prescribed Ritual for Planting Tulsi

1. Pot Preparation: In the new flower pot, mix some soil with natural cow-dung manure to create a suitable planting bed.2. Mantra Chanting: While planting the sapling, continuously chant "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" or any other mantra dedicated to Lord Vishnu in your mind.3. Planting: Dig a small pit in the soil, gently place the Tulsi sapling into it, and water it.4. Naming and Worship: Once the planting is complete, light a ghee lamp (Diya) before Mother Tulsi.5. Special Mantra: During the worship, chant the mantra "Om Shri Tulsidevye Namah" 11 or 21 times. This helps in dispelling negative energy from the home.

Important Rules and Care

Merely planting the Tulsi sapling is not sufficient; nurturing it with care is equally important:

Daily Service: Offer water to the Tulsi plant every morning, and light a ghee or oil lamp near it in the evening.

Cleanliness: Always maintain cleanliness in the area surrounding the Tulsi pot.

Purity: Do not place footwear or garbage near the Tulsi plant.
