Muslims across the world, including in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Indonesia is preparing to observe Shab-e-Barat 2026, one of the most significant nights in the Islamic calendar. Observes in the middle of Sha'ban and 15 days before Ramadan. Shab-e-Barat, also known as the "Night of Forgiveness" or the "Night of Records" will be on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, as the crescent moon of Sha'ban has already sighted in the Middle East, such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other countries.
Shab-e-Barat is traditionally observed on the 15th night of the month of Sha'ban, the eighth month of the Hijri calendar. Following the recent commencement of the month of Sha'ban 1447 this week, religious authorities have indicated that the observance will likely begin at sunset on February 4.
Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs has confirmed that the crescent moon was sighted on Monday evening. Therefore, Tuesday, 20 January 2026, marks the first day of Sha’ban 1447 AH.

However, because the Islamic calendar is lunar-based, a slight variation exists across different regions. While some countries may mark the occasion on the night of February 3 and some will observe on February 4, others in the Indian subcontinent the Shab-e-Barat night will be observed on February 4.
Shab-e-Barat Significance
In Islamic tradition, Shab-e-Barat is regarded as a period of profound spiritual significance. It is widely believed to be the night when almighty Allah determines the destiny, sustenance, and lifespan of individuals for the coming year.
For many believers, the night serves as a final opportunity for intense reflection and repentance before the arrival of the fasting month of Ramadan. It is one of five nights—including the nights preceding the two Eids and the first night of Rajab—where prayers are considered especially likely to be accepted.
Shab-e-Barat Observance
Devotees spend the night in mosques or at home, performing Nawafil (voluntary prayers) and reciting the Quran.
It is a common tradition to visit the graves of deceased relatives to offer prayers for their souls, often leading to large gatherings at local cemeteries.

Many families prepare traditional sweets to distribute to the poor. While not obligatory, many also choose to observe a voluntary fast on the day following the night of prayer.
Preparation for Ramadan 2026
Beyond its immediate spiritual rewards, Shab-e-Barat acts as a practical and emotional bridge to Ramadan, which is expected to begin approximately two weeks later, around February 18 or 19, this year.
