On the occasion of Tamil New Year, Ambigai Muthumariamman temple in Coimbatore's Kattoor was decorated with currency notes and gold ornaments. Tamil New Year, also known as Puthandu or Varusappirappu, is celebrated at the beginning of the year by Tamils.
Not just in India, but countries including Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Mauritius and Reunion celebrate the festival on April 15. On this day, devotees believe Lord Indra descended on the earth to offer peace.

The precious yellow metal is gifted in the form of coins, biscuits, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and other jewellery as they symbolise a prosperous future.
