Double digit rise in cases in Dharavi: 15 new COVID-19 patients; active cases at 146
The number of coronavirus cases has been increasing gradually since the beginning of September in the Dharavi slum of Mumbai. Since the past more than a month, Dharavi used to report single digit cases barring a few days.
On Thursday, Dharavi reported 15 new cases of coronavirus taking the tally to 2,975, the city civic body said.
A senior Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said 15 fresh infections took the tally to 2,975, but Dharavi has 146 active COVID-19 cases.
As many as 2,557 patients have already recovered and discharged from COVID-19 facilities, he said. The area had recorded 15 new patients on Wednesday too.
The civic body has, however, stopped disclosing COVID-19 deaths.
World Health Organization (WHO) praised the efficient COVID-19 management in Mumbai's Dharavi, one of the largest slums in the world.
